Warrandyte Youth Arts Award

$6000 prizemoney

This is a biennial award for young people living in Warrandyte who hope to make their careers in the arts. The award aims to assist artists with outstanding potential for excellence and was established to mark Warrandyte's place in the history of Australian art.

The contest is hosted by The Warrandyte Arts and Education Trust and the Lions Club of Warrandyte which is the sole sponsor. Contestants are drawn from a wide selection of endeavours whether it be music, painting, handcrafts, singing or graphic design or indeed any pursuit which is broadly defined as a recognised art. The contest is open to young adults aged from 18 to 25. A joint committee interviews applicants and arranges for up to three assessors proficient and well known in their respective fields to provide written reports on each candidate. Assessments which show promise of potentially significant achievement form the finalists group.

Applications are sought in March every second year (2008 is next) and is advertised in the Warrandyte Diary. The following twelve months allow for assessments to be made and the winner announcement and presentation dinner is held in the following March to coincide with the Warrandyte Festival.
